AWS EC2 Instance Creation Process

Amazon EC2 instance is a virtual server which you can create as many as you want. These instances are free and paid based depend on your uses and type of. To create your first EC2 instance you must have an account on AWS website.

Step 1: Create your AWS account on aws.amazon.com and login.

Step 2: After Login, on left side top corner you can see Services tab.

Click on Services tab and select EC2 in Compute category. It will open EC2 dashboard.

Step 3: On EC2 dashboard, you can see a button named Launch Instance under Create your instance topic. Select it.

This button will throw you on a series of pages which contain seven steps process to create EC2 instance.

Step 4:(Step 1) Choose AMI (Amazon Machine Image): This page contain a list of operating systems, servers, and applications where you need to choose one AMI according to your requirement. In my case I have selected
Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS (HVM), SSD Volume Type - ami-db710fa3

Step 5: (Step 2) Choose an Instance Type: Amazon provides you wide variety of instance type for different purpose. These instance types have varying combination of CPU, storage, memory etc. In simple words, this page allows you to choose computing configuration for your instance. Here I choose free general purpose instance type because I am using it for learning purpose.

Step 6:(Step3) Configure Instance details: here you can configure your instance for example; you can create more than one instance with same configuration. You can also customize other options such as purchasing option, network, subnet, monitoring etc.

I am not changing here anything because I am creating basic instance for learning purpose.

Step 7: (Step 4) Add Storage: Every device needs some storage space. Amazon provides you to add or edit storage space before instance launched. You can add additional EBS volume after launching an instance but not instance volumes. I let it be in default configuration mode because I don’t need more space.

Step 8: (Step5) Add Tags: To manage your instance or other EC2 resources, you can assign your own Meta data in the form of tag. These tags are a case-sensitive key-pair value and are like a label to assign your resources. It is used to identify a specific resource when you have a many resources of same type. Here just click Add tag button and define it in the form of Name and value.
For example; Name as key and newkey as value

Step 9: (Step 6) Configure Security Group: you can choose security group for your instance based on your requirement. A security group is like a virtual firewall that controls the traffic for one or more instances. Again I am not changing anything here.

Step 10:(Step 7) Review and Launch: This is the last step which provides you to check complete instance details before launching it because some of them can’t be change after launch.
